I saw some great sunsets while living in Tokyo, but I always remembered there is nothing quite like a Florida sunset. I give Aya full credit for me being able to make this image. She said the sky must be beautiful this late evening, and she was correct. [Read the full story] Read More →

The view you see above is the one I saw every day for the past 4 years. It was the view from my 11th floor Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan apartment. It was a view I paid a lot to have. To me, it was totally worth it. It was the last of many places I called home while spending the past 9 years abroad in Asia. I first lived in Pusan, South Korea. After 3 years in various cities in that country, and several trips to southeast Asia, I took a 2 month pilgrimage in New Zealand before settling on my final Asian destination:... RIDE STATS: Distance: 12.38 miles Time in Motion: 56 minutes 58 seconds Average speed: 13.1 mph Max Speed: 30.4 mph This afternoon I rode my Trek 7.3 FX out to Ueno for the first time. I met the Can out there to do some bird photography. It was a brilliantly sunny fall afternoon in Tokyo, so the cycling was crisp but very pleasant. I wore my winter Pearl Izum full-length cycling pants again and was only slightly warm on the ride out. Even though I had never ridden to Ueno, I only made one slight wrong turn... What you see in the above photo is a mysterious rock out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is the symbol of Chigasaki. I have no idea how it was formed or what it really is. Despite skimboarding this place for the past six summers, I never investigated its meaning. And I do not want to know. I always imagined it as a great shark’s dorsal fin. The rock is very mysterious, for as you walk further from it, the stone actually appears closer to you. Such is the scene of my first ever skimboarding in... [Read the full story]

Totally by accident, Aya and I were able to witness one of the most special New Year’s Eve traditions in Japan–the ringing in of the new year by 17 monks at Kyoto’s Choin-in Temple. This was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. The bell the monks were ringing is the largest in Japan, weighing in at nearly 80 tons and having a diameter of some 2.7 meters. It’s also very old, being cast way back in 1633 C.E. [Read the full story] Read More →

Purity of emotion peeks in adolescence. Angers and wrongs incurred in such times Are not yielded lightly. Decades later, adult decisions are deferred, by design. Ghosts... [Read the full story]

LOST has finally done it again. “The Incident” is the first 5-star season finale since the second season’s. Damon and Carlton knocked it out of the park along with Jack Bender’s excellent direction (the best director the show has). They can be proud. And the LOST faithful can feel vindication.
