At a quiet cafe in Shimokitazwa . . .

December 15, 2005

Came to Shimokitazawa in search of a hipster cafe to make a regular haunt. I had modest success. Found a place that is nice and quiet, and definitely not a franchise place. I’m sitting at a real wood arcing corner table with light provided by an actual table lamp, by a window. Nice cozy corner. Too bad there are some whores nearby smoking. Thanks to not having any evening lessons tonight I was able to have an “excursion evening.” These are far too rare. The only way to have more though is to change my job. Since I have limited skills, can’t do that anytime soon. Anyway, I really like getting out of the apartment on weekday evenings/nights. I have done this far too little in the 2.5+ years I’ve been living in Tokyo. It’s unbelievable really. It’s a combination of my ill work schedule, getting in a rut, being paralyzed mentally, and just forgetting what it’s like to live and do new things.

I’m hoping this is the start of a Renaissance. I’ve been waiting for a breakthrough year all my life……it just might be 2k6.

The first Blog entry

December 15, 2005

I can’t stand the world “blog.” Can’t stand it. But, it seems that it has become a standard part of the online world. Therefore, grudgingly, I have started one. I have been searching and searching for an acceptable OS X html editor, and it seems I have settled on the one I am using now, RapidWeaver. I am a big fan of Microsoft’s FrontPage, which most people think is a joke, but that let you easily create pages if you were already with how to use Word.

Anyway, the novelty of winter has already worn off in Tokyo. Snow covers most mountains so there’ll be no more hiking until the spring thaw most likely. Same for the start of skimboarding season. So I guess this means I’ll have to pick-up the exercising slack with basketball.

Planning on going to Shimo-Kitazawa tomorrow night in search of a hipster cafe that perhaps only exists in my mind. We shall see . . .
