Night Ride up Meiji Dori to Ikebukuro

July 6, 2007

Ride STATS:

Distance: 11.44 miles

Time in motion: 58 minutes 06 seconds

Average speed: 11.8 mph

Max speed: 28.0 mph

I didn’t have a strong idea of where I wanted to go when I set out for tonight’s ride, the first since Saturday late afternoon. So I just headed up Meiji Dori and quickly found the building a friend recently moved into just off that major street. Less than 15 minutes door-to-door. I was surprised that Ikebukuro station was so close by as well. I road around the station, the headed back taking some tiny side streets, which of course is a recipe for immediately getting lost and turned around. I asked a police officer at a koban for directions which I only partially followed.

I eventually found my way back to Mejiro station from which I ended up cruising past I think Takadanobaba station. I road up a way overly lit street then finally found the street I actually live on, though I connected with it a good mile or so north of where my building is, but I’ve ridden (and walked) here before so I recognized it easily.

I found some decent stretches that allowed me to reach decent, sustained speeds, and I even went up a few small hills. Set a new max speed record. I don’t think I’ve gone done into 8th gear on my front third chain ring yet.

I hope to go on my biggest ride yet on Saturday, but the forecast says rain.
