Daily Photo feature debut – Shinjuku Skycrapers
August 27, 2008 · Print This Article
This is the start of a new feature on Jacked-in called DAILY PHOTO. I will include only one photo, and a link to a large version of that photo, along with its EXIF data and a brief description, unless the photo has a more substantial story behind it.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Nikon D80 with AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm VR G ED DX lens
- Velbon Ultra Max iL tripod
This photo was taken from my balcony in Shinjuku. In the photo you can see:
- A — a huge, towering apartment building
- B — The Sompo Building
- C — The Nomura Building (rudely being built in front of)
- D — The Mitsui Building (long ago I applied for a job in it)
I love having this view. Somehow it comforts me to see lights on in those buildings because I know that people are nearby. At the same time, I often think what they are doing in those buildings is totally unnecessary. As you can see, even at 10:30pm on a Tuesday night, many people are still hard at work. After midnight the mostly go dark, however.

Shinjuku Skyscrapers at Night — Sompo, Nomura, Mitsui buildings…
A photograph of a few skyscrapers in downtown Shinjuku taken at night. In the photo a huge apartment building can be seen, along with the more well-known Sompo, Nomura and Mitsui buildings….
I love the Tokyo skyline, as well.
We work late here in the States, too. I was working from 11pm to 1am last week. Mostly because I was too inebriated to drive and a work associate dropped me off at the office after a client “event”.

At least most Tokyo workers get to leave the office by the time of their last train, so for most people that’s by midnight. However, some people that don’t live so far work past midnight and their company just gives them money for a taxi home!
More skyline photos coming in the near future . . . .
