TERMINATOR SALVATION [2009] review
May 23, 2009

You see, the problem is that THE DARK KNIGHT has set the bar so high for action films, that a film like TERMINATOR SALVATION, bad at any time, seems all the much worse following KNIGHT just a year later. But really TS is just a bad, bad movie. I know for Terminator fans like myself, your still going to go see it. But if you are not a diehard Terminator fan, then by all means do not waste your money on a ticket to this movie. Why was it so bad?
TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY [1991] review
May 22, 2009

I believe that TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY was the first movie I saw in the theater twice in my teenage years (I saw ROCKY IV numerous times in the theater as a kid). It was a huge deal. I was a dedicated Guns ‘N Roses fan and the release of the new single “You Could Be Mine” had me worked up into a frenzy. I have not seen the movie since its release, to my knowledge, so I was very stoked to re-watch in preparation for the new TERMINATOR SALVATION. The nostalgia factor was high. Yet I found myself being increasingly skeptical of T2.
QUANTUM OF SOLACE [2008] review
May 16, 2009

I had bee waiting for quite some time to see QUANTUM OF SOLACE, but this was because I was hesitating to see it out of concerns of its quality. With so many known great movies out there still unseen by me, and I’m only able to see about 55 movies a year, I do not like to take risks on movies that may turn out to waste one of those 55 movie viewing experiences. Was QUANTUM a waste, I cannot say that unqualified since the spectacle on a small scale was ok, but I certainly was not impressed in even the slightest way. This movie is a shadow of CASINO ROYALE, which was not that spectacular either.
LOST 5×16 & 5×17 “The Incident” Parts 1 & 2
May 14, 2009

LOST has finally done it again. “The Incident” is the first 5-star season finale since the second season’s. Damon and Carlton knocked it out of the park along with Jack Bender’s excellent direction (the best director the show has). They can be proud. And the LOST faithful can feel vindication.
BODY OF LIES [2008] review
May 12, 2009

I watched BODY OF LIES on the flight here from Japan. I thought, “why in the world do we need another one of these spy movies?” Can any be better than SYRIANA anyway? Well, BODY OF LIES is not as good as SYRIANA, but it was a decent enough on the plane movie.
LOST 5×15 “Follow the Leader”
May 7, 2009

The penultimate LOST season 5 episode did a good job of setting the table, if this episode itself was lacking action. Perhaps the final destinies of all the main characters have been set. I find myself growing a little impatient with LOST. I used to be the most patient viewer never complaining about not getting answers. However, now that we are close to the end, I just want to know all without setup episodes, filler episodes, or anything in between.
X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE [2009] review
May 4, 2009

I could say this about any action movie of recent times save for the Bourne series, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE has way too much CGI and not enough grit. No doubt Hugh Jackman is the perfect actor to portray Wolverine on screen. And the addition of Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed, aka, Sabretooth, pretty much carried the movie. I’ve always liked Liev, and in the bad guy role here, he brings all necessary menace. Yet neither of these two main characters ever appeared to be in believable jeopardy, for the most part.
