HORRIBLE BOSSES [2011] movie review

HORRIBLE BOSSES is one of those kinds of movies that while I am watching it I am thinking, “ok, now the movie is going to take a step back and slow down,” but it does not it just keeps going with seemingly no cuts. This is a good thing as momentum just keeps building. Scenes are not revisited. There are three bosses, and their respective horribleness is established all in the opening scenes so the movie never has to repeat itself. I liked that. I also like Jason Bateman playing the type of role he did on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT so the movie overall worked pretty well for me.
HORRIBLE BOSSES makes you feel like you are out on a very, very crazy night with your own friends. The play between the three leads (Bateman, Charlie Day & Jason Sudeikis) is very natural in of course a hyper movie kind of way. How they got Jennifer Aniston to say her dialogue I have no idea, but it was very effective to see her play against character as a sexually harassing dentist.
BOSSES went a little bit for the gross out, not with visuals, but with awkward conversations, one in particular is when the guys meet an old high school friend who is willing to do a little too much for money. I could have lived without that scene going that far.
As mentioned before, the best thing about BOSSES is how it is able to start, build and maintain its momentum without straying into malice, despite the three guys wanting their bosses dead. This is not a movie to watch with your mom.
