DESTRY [1954] movie review

I really should not have watched DESTRY [1954] as I did so for all the wrong reasons. First, I thought it was the story about what happened before the events in the great DESTRY RIDES AGAIN [1939]. That story was about the son of a famous lawman who does not follow in the gun toting ways of his father, but rather tries to not use guns as much as possible. So I thought DESTRY would be his father’s story. Unfortunately, it was the exact same story retold for some unknown reason. Then my last mistake was thinking this was the original version, and that DESTRY RIDES AGAIN starring James Stewart was the remake. This all happened because I try hard to know very little beforehand about the movies I watch. So I got stuck watching an inferior remake of a movie only 15 years old that I just watched three months ago.
Destry is played by Audie Murphy this time, who I just saw in a far superior movie last week, NO NAME ON THE BULLET.
Still, despite all this, knowing the story, the lesser cast, the movie in color not black & white, I still found the movie quite watchable. There were a few changes (mostly for the worse) in the plot details and plot devices used to move the story forward.
However, I completely recommend only ever watching DESTRY RIDES AGAIN. There is no need to see this DESTRY remake.
