24 Season 7 — 8am to 9am

WARNING SPOILERS

Can you ever say anything other than “hell yeah 24 is back” after seeing a season premiere of 24?  And after two years you most definitely have to.  Season 7 of 24 kicked off tonight and I was on board from the very first frame.  Two years of pent up demand + lack of any new shows to emerge on TV this year = feels so good to have Jack Bauer and 24 back on a weekly basis.  Boom baby!

I didn’t even realize how nostalgic I was being by choosing to start watching 24 tonight.  Let me elaborate . . . years ago, my Tuesday work schedule was pretty hardcore, like 7 hours of teaching English plus travel time.  It was exhausting and what got me through those Tuesdays was knowing 24 was waiting for me to watch at the end of it.  I just had to survive until 10pm then Jack would take over from there.

In 24′s two year absence my Tuesday schedule has changed, of course, and is not as busy as it used to be.  However, today was no regular Tuesday and I once again had a super long day.  Also, this is my last Tuesday ever in my Shinjuku apartment (at least with furniture) before I move out next week.  Without even realizing it, that is not until after the Pavlovian intro of 24 finished, I had perfectly recreated my usual M.O. for watching 24 on the last possible Tuesday I could.  I was so stoked upon this realization.

And the episode itself didn’t disappoint.

I cheered when Jack first came on screen.  I said “SOULPATCH TONY” when they made the nod to the fans by showing a closeup of it while Tony was wearing a ski mask.  Whenever Jack said anything to that douche bag director at the FBI I said out loud, “hell yeah.”

Loved every second of this episode.

For me, I totally don’t care how absurd, how beyond feasibility an episode of 24 or a season long storyline of 24 gets.  I…just…don’t…care.  24 is visceral.  I don’t need logic.

I knew that dude in the beginning would get sideswiped.  I knew the female FBI agent was actually down with “any means necessary” to get info from a suspect.  Loved how she broke that huge dude’s arm then greenlit Jack to have some “enjoyment.”

Like how all great episodes of 24 end, can’t wait to roll the next one!

24 is back in an epic way.  Win.

Just curious, if you’re in Tokyo, where are you watching 24? I caught the first episode on boxee, but I’m not sure how up-to-date their feed is.

24 is way awesome, and is one of 3 shows on tv right now that I’ll watch, alongside Battlestar Gallactica and Entourage.

Last night I watched 24 by buying the episode, in HD, from iTunes. I am American and have a U.S. based visa credit card so I can buy from the U.S. iTunes store from even here in Japan. This was the first HD version of any show I’ve gotten from iTunes and it was good quality, almost very good.

I’m with you also in watching BSG and Entourage!
